Preparing Students for the Labour Market: The Role of Theory-Based Economic Judgements Against AI-Supported Decision-Making Workshop at the Bucharest University of Economic Studies
Artificial Intelligence would not have been possible without the great thinkers – in both “hard” and “soft” sciences – who educated themselves, then developed theories to be tested in practice, and while they may have failed in solving resistant conundrums, they excelled in fighting for their reasoned convictions.
There is never “too much theory”, but only “good vs. poor theorising” to be set apart. Breaking away from theoretical thinking means becoming mere executors and, without asking questions such as “why?” or “how?”, we could risk getting used to answering with the disempowering “because we have to!”. Throughout history, this phrase often announced the loss of liberty, prosperity and security.
The workshop, in which we will nevertheless enjoy technology that makes us able to get closer in spite of distances – yet more so by our deeply humane strive for dialogue –, we want to reinforce the idea that a solid education for our students, so as to help them find their own way within the labour market, needs wisely reconciling of theoretical learning with applied skilfulness. Both these educational facets are supported by technological breakthroughs to be mastered as professional partners, and not as perils.
